History of GESD

Grenada School District: below you will find school district history, as written in Stanley Balfrey's book, "History of the Schools of Siskiyou County", as well as historic photos from various sources

The present town of Grenada was founded in 1916. Prior to that time there was only a railroad siding and section house at that site. The town was named Grenada by the Southern Pacific Railroad company.

The Grenada School District was established in 1918.

Before the first school house was built in 1919, school was held in a room back of the Pool Hall. Miss Mary Quadros was the first teacher.

The original school house was located on the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Siskiyou Avenue in Grenada. A grocery store is now located on the site.

The second school house, a two-story frame building was located on the same site as the present school playground and was built about 1920.

As this school became obsolete, in 1952 the present school was built.

School Song

Oh Grenada, Oh Grenada

Hand in hand we stride

We play fair

We learn to share

We do our best

We’re on a quest

Oh Grenada, Oh Grenada

When all is said and done

We’ll never fear

Wildcats are here

We’re Number 1
