About GESD
mission-statement.jpg

Grenada Elementary School is a K-8 school located in rural Siskiyou County in Northern California approximately 28 miles south of the California Oregon border on Interstate 5. GES is in a school district comprised of two-schools; Grenada Elementary School and Grenada Community Day School. The school enrollment for 2012-13 was 161 and has been increasing gradually over the past five years. GES is located in the center of the small unincorporated town of Grenada, population 362. The town of Grenada is surrounded by cattle ranches and from the playground while the majesty on 14,162 ft. Mt. Shasta is the prominent, ever present element of our landscape. The school serves as a community center for club meetings, youth sports, and community events. Many different groups use the school grounds as a park. GES provides a safe, clean environment for learning.

Education serves as the foundation for a democratic society. An important goal of our school is to help children develop the qualities of self-discipline, responsibility and respect for self and others. Our school believes that students have the right to learn and teachers have the right to teach. For this to be accomplished, an effective learning atmosphere must be created and maintained. This kind of atmosphere is developed when you have a caring and dedicated staff that works with parents and students cooperatively to ensure each student’s success.

It is our philosophy that students who feel good about themselves and have opportunities to receive positive recognition, ten to perform better academically and socially. There are monthly awards assemblies where students are recognized for citizenship, artistic achievement and scholastic achievement; In addition, we have spirit week and other special events and assemblies throughout the year. End of the year reward days are held to celebrate the success of students. The eighth grade students take and annual trip to visit interesting educational sites outside of our areas. We also offer athletic programs that compete in the Siskiyou County Athletic League-Small Schools Division.

GES is a great place for children to attend. The environment is supportive, wholesome, free from drugs, alcohol and gang activities. GES parents support the school by attending parent conferences, school activities, volunteering at t school in a variety of ways including assisting tin the classrooms, supervising filed trips and running the school library.

As you look through the website of our school, I believe that a picture will emerge of a school dedicated to improvement, a qualified faculty that is professionally and personally committed to meeting the learning needs of students, and a student body which is motivated to perform well.
